In 2005 the Kumho Cultural Foundation formed the Kumho Art Studio to be run by the Kumho Museum of Art in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, in pursuit of a balanced growth of art and music. The art studio provides promising up-and-coming artists with the work space where they can devote themselves to creative work.
Artists in residence are selected through a fair screening and stay at the studio for one year on an annual basis. The studio consists of nine rooms in a single building. It is currently arranging new programs for infrastructure construction involving artists, critics, and curators together in the art scene alongside its artist-in-residence program.
Its purpose is not only to offer prospective rising artists an opportunity and space where they can dedicate themselves to creative activities, but also to support Korea’s representative artists who will enhance the Korean art world as they cope to survive in an era of globalization. The studio is making endeavors to improve its programs in collaboration with the Kumho Cultural Foundation, local autonomous entities, and local artistic organizations.
