The work of HaeNa Cho is based on kinetic art. An unintentional movement that occurs in the process of “sculpting” machines and video screens makes the exhibition hall a dynamic space. The artist tries to show that her artwork is ‘an organic body' that interacts in time and space, and avoid recognizing a mechanical device only as a medium.
In this exhibition, the artist visualizes the resonance in the space and vibrations of her works, stimulated by motion detection. ‘Turbulence' refers to the irregular activation of the works, and the word appears on the wall when the fan moves. It also intuitively evokes the feeling that this exhibition is lively. On the other hand, Meridian(2022), consisting of repeatedly twisting and untwisting columns, and Laminar Flow(2022) that swings serve as a ‘laminar flow' that gives the exhibition hall a sense of regularity.
The artist tries to reverse a perceptual system while comparing the physical and visual effects of her works to turbulence and laminar flow. This experiment allows the visitors to interact with the space by reflecting their experience in the works.
