DaHee Lee visualizes classical music with lines, planes, shapes, and colors based on her ‘ adaptation system of music.' She collects and analyses musical data such as the era and composers to determine the mode of expression, and converts the record of the performer's techniques and interpretation. After the process of arranging the entire structure corresponding to such method and conversion, music is finally reborn as visual art.
This exhibition consists of works for which she analyzed J.S. Bach's “Well-Tempered Clavier(WTC)”, Book 1, No. 6. In her works titled J.S. Bach-Prelude d minor BWV851(2022), Bach's beautiful harmony and improvisational melody are patterned through various shapes and colors to form a unique picture in the flow of subtle change. In addition, the artist incorporated the traditional Korean style into western classical music. In collaboration with Wanpanbon Culture Center located in Jeonju, the artist engraved patterns that visualized the music of Bach on woodcut and Hanji using Korean engraving and printing. In this way, the mystical space where music and art, the East and West, and the past and present coexist, arouses new senses of visitors.
