​임선구 개인전 《축성법 A castle built of dust》

작가 임선구는 종이와 흑연을 기반으로 개인적 경험과 기억, 타자와 공동체의 이야기를 엮어 다양한 층위의 드라마를 만든다. 연약한 종이 위에 남긴 흔적과 도상들은 얽히고설켜 서로의 영역을 침범하고 미묘한 관계 속에서 세상을 구축한다. 최근에 작가는 이러한 종이 드로잉을 구기거나 찢고 기워내는 것에서 나아가 덩어리가 되어가는 과정에 집중한다. 이번 전시에서 그는 출처가 다른 여러 종이를 으깨고 이어 붙여 만든 벽 구조물 등을 선보인다. 위태롭게 서로를 지지하며 공간을 점유하는 종이 벽들은 나와 맞물려 돌아가는 세상의 수많은 장면을 투영하고 삶을 대하는 우리의 모습을 반추하게 한다.

Using paper and graphite, Sungoo Im creates multilayered dramas that weave together personal experiences and memories, stories of others and the community. The traces and icons left on paper become entangled, invade each other's space, and create a world of subtle relationships. Recently, Im has shifted from crumpling, tearing, and sewing up paper drawings to transforming them into mass. In this exhibition, she presents wall structures made by smoothing and piecing bits of paper together. The paper walls constructed, precariously supporting each other while occupying the space, mirror numerous scenes of the world that revolves around us and prompt us to contemplate our own approaches to life.​
